Compact discs made their first appearance in stores in 1983.  Michael Jackson started the "Moonwalk" and had his name all over the charts that year including at #1 with "Billie Jean" (7 weeks), "Beat It" (3 weeks) and "Say, Say, Say"...a duet with Paul McCartney (6 weeks).  Nancy Reagan told us to "Just Say No" to drugs, including the newest drug on the market, "crack".   M*A*S*H signed off after an 11 year run on television.  1983 was the first of five straight years that Jane Fonda workout videos topped the video sales for the year.   Apple introduced us to the computer accessory called the mouse.  At Christmas time, people were fighting over the most popular toy on the shelf...Cabbage Patch Dolls.   In the music world, we first heard REM, Culture Club and Madonna; John Cougar decided he wanted to be addressed by his real name, "John Mellencamp"; and we lost Karen Carpenter and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys.
